I thought I would have Handel's Hallelujah chorus soaring. I would write about 10 Hallelujah's and pretend as though you could hear them. I planned to throw glitter about--metaphorically-- so that there would be dazzle and rejoicing and hilarity.
instead, i feel rather anxious and dissatisfied, a bit like i did when i turned in the disasterous seminar paper last semester. i turned the thesis in today, but i'm not happy with it. i found myself sniffing and getting teary in a university computer lab today when i got an insensitive email. i wanted to come home and read over the thesis again. but instead i'm going to bed. i didn't do that last night. not even for 30 minutes. so the computer is going off, and the light is going off, and my body is going off.
i'm calling it a draft, even though i gave it to all my committee members. i suppose this is the beginning of the end. i wish that i could sing a little louder.
the day i defend, i'll post an entire oratorio.
And for a fitting end to a post about my thesis, here's a fantastic article on Helon Habila that my google alerts sent to me. If it had been yesterday, I would have put some of it into my thesis...

Hey, Congrats! I know you are drained right now. You've just put your best work on the table to have it judged. Your daily work, and soul searching has come to an end.
It will be fine!
thanks charity! I'm afraid it is not my best work; that's why i'm worried. but it will be nice to have a break from it to actually have some time to work on all the other courswork that has been piling up. and yes, i'm sure it will eventually be fine! {-; thanks for the encouragment. now to BED!!!!
Congratulations! Whatever your misgivings, you've completed it and handed it in. Celebrate that
As UKNaija aptly mentions, completion is the key word. I think it was a sign that the article on Habila came the moment you turned it in, b/c what it tells you is that things like theses come to an end. It is the lesson that I, like you, are learning... endings, limits, (mortality? ah, we shall not go there...)
Thing is, you may have time enough for revision, so... that's what we have other readers for...
Sleep! It helps the mind... (can you tell I finally finished a chapter? ah...)
thanks to all! after about 12 hours of sleep, i feel a bit better. and yes, there is always time for revision afterwards. i wanted it to be done when i handed it in, but it is probably good to have a few weeks away from it. you always want to impress your profs with a perfect draft... but... yeah, right... {-; more on all that later.
Congratulations.
Your toughest critic is yourself, and that's the way it should be.
Keep on.
I've never seen a blog with so much that I didn't understand. You must have picked it up in a country like Africa. :)
I'm glad to hear you're still writing. Obviously that was never my strong suite which is why people like you were there to save my butt when it came time to turn in a paper. I and my GPA from many years ago thank you very much for that.
Haha Mr. "Country like Africa,"
Aren't you glad I disabused you of that notion. Since you remember it so well, you must have been able to live another 10 years in the glorious knowledge that Africa is actually a CONTINENT... {-; Glad I was of assistance.
Great to hear from you. Is this a blog I see? It's not showing up with a link, but I shall go to M.'s blog and see if I can find you.
I do post accessible stuff every once in a while. It's just that I have been absorbed with trying to finish my thesis the past few weeks. Watch out for my YouTube obsession!

Kudos on completion!
I used to have a blog but gave it up due to inactivity and heckling from various sources (I think you could probably guess who). Who knows, I may rejoin the ranks one day. But for now I'm content with dropping in on other peoples blogs every now and again. I hope you are doing well over there. Let us know if you are going to come back to the states sometime.
LOL LOTR Junkie... I AM in the States. I haven't moved away from the place I was living when I saw you last year. {-; But I might be back in Nigeria next year.
Do let me know if you start up another blog. I won't heckle, I promise. I'll be nice and sweet and merely correct factual errors like... "a country like Africa..." {-; Hope you are well.
